
Geraldine Forbes is a Distinguished Teaching Professor Emerita in the Department of History and and program in Women’s and Gender Studies at the State University of New York Oswego. A pioneer in researching and writing women’s history in Colonial India, in the 1970s and 80s interviewed women who played a role in India’s first women’s organizations. She has published extensively on women’s struggle for political and social rights, and women’s memoirs.
Her connection with NGOs working with Indian women began in the 1980s and she is currently a member of the National Advisory Board of Stree Shakti and on the International Advisory Board of SPARROW. From 2009-2014, she organized, in collaboration with the Women’s Studies Research Centre of Calcutta University, workshops on Sex Trafficking and NGO Responses to Sex Trafficking. As a volunteer, she has worked with refugee support organizations in the USA and Southeast Asia.
