Founder of Jabala Action Research Organisation (http://www.jabala.org/), Kolkata, India, Baitali worked in the Government of India’s Department of Health and Family Welfare as a member of Evaluation Team covering 10 States. In 1992, she founded Jabala, an organization designed to work with children in the red light areas with the aim of preventing second generation trafficking. Since then, Jabala has addressed the issue of Trafficking through a multi-pronged approach of prevention, rehabilitation, re-integration, prosecution, and advocacy. Jabala has also extended its work to related issues: safe migration, child marriage, gender-based violence, livelihood training, and adolescent empowerment.
Beginning in 2009, Jabala began its work in North Bengal’s tea estates, some of which are unofficially shut leaving their workers without any way to earn a living. In 2016, Jabala began working with girls in Jharkand. Jabala’s interest has been in improving economic conditions, especially for girls and young women in these areas.
